Yuri Klevtsov
 
Principal Dancer-Bolshoi Ballet
 

Born in Moscow, Yuri Klevtsov began his dance training at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. He studied under the guidance of the famous teacher Alexander Prokofiev. As a student, he became a recipient of the Gold Medal at the Third All Soviet Union Ballet Competition in 1988 and the same year he was among the winners of the International Ballet Competition in Varna (Bulgaria).

After graduation in 1988, he joined the Bolshoi Ballet as a soloist and became a principal dancer of the Company in 1989. Powerful technique and dramatic stage presence quickly earned Yuri recognition in the famous roles of the Bolshoi ballet repertoire. "Yuri Klevtsov is a true successor to the great virtuoso dancers of the past of the Bolshoi Ballet Company", - wrote a British critic after Mr. Klevtsov performed the title role in "Spartacus" in London.

Since joining the Bolshoi Ballet Yuri has been coached by legendary Mikhail Lavrovsky (son of L. Lavrovsky, an outstanding Spartacus and Basil). Under his guidance, Mr. Klevtsov performed the roles of Basil in "Don Quixote" (Y.Grigorovich's and A.Fadeyechev's versions); Farkhad in "The Love Legend" (Y. Grigorovich); title role in Y. Grigorovich's "Spartacus"; Prince in "The Nutcracker"; Abderakhman in "Raymonda"; Danila in "The Stone Flower"; Solor in "La Bayadere"; Conrad in "Le Corsaire"; title role in "Romeo and Juliet" (L. Lavrovsky's and Yu. Grigorovich's versions); roles in "Paquita", "Mozartiana", among others. 

Mr. Klevtsov has frequently performed with the ballet company of Teatro de Colon in Buenos Aires, where he has danced Prince Siegfrid in "Swan Lake" and Prince Desire in "The Sleeping Beauty". Yuri Klevtsov is a Merited Artist of Russia.
