Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra

  Since its formation in 1987, the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT ORCHESTRA has been in constant demand for performances and recordings of light classical and popular music both in the UK and abroad.  The orchestra has a long history of working with celebrity artists, ranging from Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras,  Lesley Garrett, Russell Watson , Evelyn Glennie and Montserrat Caballe to Sir Cliff Richard, Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder , Luther Vandross and Diana Krall.  
 

The ROYAL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT ORCHESTRA has delighted audiences around the world with its versatile concert programmes, which have included Opera Galas, Stage and Screen Classics, Viennese Galas, Classical Favourites, Hooked on Classics and the ever-popular Last Night of the Proms.   The orchestra’s many recordings include Mancini Rocks the Pops, Premier Pops, Pop Go the Beatles, Andrew Lloyd Webber Classic Songs and Elmer Bernstein by Elmer Bernstein.  The orchestra has featured on two best-selling recordings with Lesley Garrett, including the hugely successful Soprano in Red.  It also appears annually on BBC Television’s Children in Need broadcast.

The ROYAL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT ORCHESTRA has a flourishing international schedule, having toured to the Far East, Athens, Florence, Rome, Spain, Monaco, Turkey and Belgium.  In 1997, the orchestra was the resident orchestra for the Holders Season in Barbados, which included a gala performance with Luciano Pavarotti.  The orchestra toured the United States in 1998 with Andrea Bocelli, performed with Paquito D’Rivera in Brazil in 2000 and toured Scandinavia, Russia and Estonia in the summer of 2001.

Highlights in recent years have included the orchestra’s own presentation of Barbara Cook’s 70th Birthday Celebration at the Royal Albert Hall with guest stars Michel Legrand, Elaine Stritch, Tommy Korberg and Maria Friedman, performances of Aida at Earls Court with Luciano Pavarotti, a UK tour of Bugs Bunny on Broadway as well as twenty shows with Sir Cliff Richard in his Celebration of 40 Years in Show Business at the Royal Albert Hall in 1998, recorded for video, with a further twelve shows in 1999.  That year also saw the orchestra perform at the opening night party for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, as well as an appearance on Tina Turner’s 60th Birthday Concert which was televised world-wide.

In 2000, the orchestra’s London concerts included performances with Randy Newman, Maria Ewing, Dame Cleo Laine, Johnny Dankworth and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.  The orchestra also appeared at Holland Park Opera, recorded a performance at the Dome with Charlotte Church for national Chinese television and gave three performances with the Jamaican reggae star John Holt.  Highlights from last year included concerts with Diana Krall at the Royal Festival Hall, a UK tour of The Music of ELO and Symphonic Queen, further performances with John Holt and a gala concert with Jose Carreras and Elaine Paige at the Royal Albert Hall.

This year, the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC CONCERT ORCHESTRA has worked with a great range of performers including Liza Minnelli, Dionne Warwick, Chloe Hanslip, Julian Lloyd Webber and Russell Watson and will continue its versatile and exciting range of projects throughout 2003 and beyond.  Forthcoming UK concert plans include gala performances with Andrea Bocelli, Jose Carreras and Lesley Garrett and live performances of the orchestra’s recently launched and ongoing series of Here Come the Classics recordings.  The orchestra is also participating in a concert tour of Les Miserables in Scandinavia as well as a forthcoming  tour of the United States with an all-star line-up including Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Charlotte Church.
