What is unique about this performer is
the dynamic and versatile range of
her repertoire and
capabilities. Her blend of
Broadway musicals, opera,
chamber music, Gaelic arias and pop songs has
enabled her to share studio
and stage with such top artists as Placido
Domingo, Wyclef Jean, Billy
Gilman and the London Symphony Orchestra.
Her talent is clear to
anyone who has experienced and enjoyed albums like
“Voice Of An Angel” (1998),
“Charlotte Church” (1999), “Dream A Dream”(2000) and last year’s
“Enchantment”. Outside the confines of the recording
studio, she has also showed
that she is a force to be reckoned with, appearing in concert before vast
crowds at
Hyde Park in London to the
Hollywood Bowl.
To coincide with her appearance on stage
at A Royal Christmas, “Prelude…The
Best Of Charlotte Church”
has gone on release all around the world.
Featuring selections of her
most captivating and powerful vocal performances, the
album serves both as an
ideal introduction to her world for new comers and
an opportunity for her fans
to enjoy the ultimate Charlotte Church
compilation.
As you would expect from an
artist of Ms Church’s caliber, there are many
highlights. For some, it
will be such traditional Irish songs as “My Lagan
Love” or “She Moved Through
The Fair”. Others will long for such delights as
“Pie Jesu", "In Trutina", "Panis
Angelicus" or "Amazing Grace". “All Love
Can Be”, her contribution
to the soundtrack for “A Beautiful Mind”, will be
the favorite of many while
“The Flower Duet", Habañera" and "The Prayer"
are selected from last
year’s “Enchantment” collection. There are also four
new tracks on “Prelude”
including "It's The Heart That Matters Most,"
Gabriel Faure's "Tantum
Ergo", Pietro Mascagni's "Sancta Maria” and a superb
version of Paul Simon’s
"Bridge Over Troubled Water”, showing yet again Ms
Church’s extraordinary
diversity.
Remarkable, despite all she
has achieved to date, she remains very much a
down to earth teenager, as
keen to hang out with her friends as she is to
collaborate with other
music stars. “I’m 16 so I go with the flow” she
explains. “It's important
to meet challenges head-on. If there's something
you really want to
accomplish, but you're scared to try, that probably means
you should give it a go.
You only live once."
For Ms Church, it has
always been about a desire to sing. “I never wanted to
be famous, I just wanted to
sing. I didn't want to be just another pop star.
I love so many different
styles of music, I wanted to be able to do them
all. I don't mind being
considered a classical artist because that's what my
background and training
have been. But I don't want to be stuck in any one
category. It's true that,
because of my age, I don't have the life
experience to sing about
things like love and death. But, as I get older, I
find I can be a bit more of
a narrator, telling the story and conveying the
emotion of a song. And that
opens a whole new world of possibilities."
This holiday season, it’s
her rendition of such classics as “Silent Night”
and “Ave Maria” which will
be thrilling A Royal Christmas patrons. For those in attendance, it
promises to be an unforgettable experience.
