Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra
Since its formation in 1987, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra has been in constant demand in the UK and abroad. Everyone seems to want their performances and recordings of classical, light classical and popular music. The Orchestra has had the distinction of working with internationally renowned recording artists like Andrea Bocelli, Montserrat Caballe, Lesley Garrett, Kiri Te Kanawa, Luciano Pavarotti and Bryn Terfel to Burt Bacharach, George Benson, Tina Turner, Michel Legrand, Henry Mancini, Sir Cliff Richard, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder.
In the summer of 2004, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performed in front of an audience of 70,000 fans at the Olympic Torch Concert in The Mall. They were also televised live on BBC1, with Rod Stewart, Will Young and Ozzy Osbourne. Other performances included outdoor gala concerts with Tony Hadley, Russell Watson, Dionne Warwick, David Cassidy and Michael Ball. To celebrate the centenary of the Entente Cordiale the Orchestra performed at Windsor Castle for Her Majesty The Queen and President Jacques Chirac. Then the orchestra was off to the Royal Albert Hall for a gala fundraising concert featuring the music of Cole Porter. There they performed with several artists including Barbara Hendricks, Jocelyn Brown, Mick Hucknall and Chrissie Hynde. More recently, the Orchestra joined Sir Cliff Richard, Will Young, Katie Melua, Daniel Bedingfield, Heather Small and Katherine Jenkins took for a BBC televised concert in Trafalgar Square to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of VE Day.
The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra has delighted audiences around the world with its versatile concert programs, which have included Classical Favourites , Magic of the Movies, Opera Galas, Screen Classics, Hooked on Classics and the ever-popular Last Night of the Proms. The Orchestra’s many recordings include Mancini Rocks the Pops, Premier Pops, Pop Go the Beatles, Andrew Lloyd Webber Classic Songs and Elmer Bernstein by Elmer Bernstein. The Orchestra has been featured on two best-selling recordings with Lesley Garrett, including the hugely successful Soprano in Red. It also appears annually on BBC Television’s Children in Need broadcast.
Recent performances have included London concerts with José Carreras, Diana Krall, Liza Minnelli, Randy Newman, the Opera Babes and Hayley Westenra, UK tours with Andrea Bocelli, Lesley Garrett, Chloë Hanslip and Russell Watson and regular appearances with the Jamaican reggae star John Holt. Other highlights include thirty-two shows with Sir Cliff Richard at the Royal Albert Hall, a season at Opera Holland Park, appearing at Tina Turner’s Sixtieth Birthday Concert, performances of Aida at Earls Court with Luciano Pavarotti and UK tours of Bugs Bunny on Broadway, The Music of ELO and Symphonic Queen.
The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra’s international schedule has included visits to Athens, Barbados, the Far East, Florence, Monaco, Rome, Spain and Turkey. The Orchestra performed with Paquito D’Rivera in Brazil in 2000 and toured Scandinavia, Russia and Estonia in the summer of 2001. They returned to Scandinavia in the fall of 2002 for a concert tour of Les Misérables.. Also in 2002 The Orchestra toured North America as part of A Royal Christmas, with Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer and Charlotte Church and is delighted to be returning to the USA for a second Royal Christmas tour with Andrea Bocelli and Denyce Graves in December of 2005.
In addition to its regular summer season of outdoor concerts, the Orchestra will continue its versatile and exciting range of projects both in the UK and abroad, including further live performances of the recently launched and ongoing series of Here Come the Classics™ recordings.
