Robin Follman, Soprano Biography

Considered one of the rising young talents in the operatic world today, internationally acclaimed soprano, Robin Follman has appeared extensively in opera, concert, and oratorio in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Opera News hailed her as having "brought enchantingly pure tone, easy high range and rich musical style to her international-class Marguerite" and "a singer-actress fully worthy of that dual distinction" of her portrayal of Mimi in La Boheme. Recent engagements have included Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with Michigan Opera Theater, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Santa BarbaraOpera, and Carmina Burana in Portland, Oregon with the widely acclaimed dance troop, BodyVox, a Gala Concert with Goldcoast Opera, and evening of Opera Arias with the Oklahoma Symphony Philharmonic, the title role in Tosca with Piedmont Opera, First Lady in The Magic Flute with the Beijing Music Festival, Desdemona in Otello with Hawaii Opera, and Mimi in La Boheme with Opera Carolina. Engagements for the 2004-2005 season included a return to Florentine Opera as Mimi in La Boheme, a return to Michigan Opera Theatre as Marguerite in Faust, Hannah in The Merry Widow with the Singapore Lyric Opera and Lyric Opera Malaysia, Nedda in I Pagliacci with Fresno Grand Opera, as well as numerous concerts and recitals throughout Asia and the US.

Upcoming engagements for the 2005-2006 season will include the Soprano Soloist in Gala Concerts with Opera Carolina and Opera Santa Barbara, Madga in La Rondine with Utah Symphony & Opera, the title role in The Merry Widow with both Fresno Grand Opera and Indianapolis Opera, the Heroines in Les Contes d'Hoffmann in Belgrade, and Alice Ford in Falstaffwith Opera Lyra Ottawa.

Previous engagements for Ms. Follman have included Tosca for the Florentine Opera, Micaela in Carmen for Houston Grand Opera, Opera Pacific and Madison Opera, her Los Angeles Opera debut as the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, her Washington Opera debut as Abigail Williams and Sarah Good in The Crucible, Mimi in La Boheme for the Macau International Music Festival, Opera Pacific, Fresno Grand Opera and Pamiro Opera, Musetta in La Boheme for New York City Opera, Opera Pacific, Florentine Opera, and Dayton Opera, Violetta in La Traviata with Hawaii Opera Theater, Nedda and the soprano soloist in Chris Mattaliano's production of Pagliacci and Carmina Burana with Utah Opera and Nedda in Pagliacci for Gold Coast Opera, the Heroines in Les Côntes d'Hoffmann for both Toledo Opera and Piedmont Opera, Marguerite in Faust for Madison Opera, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Anna Glawari in The Merry Widow with Madison Opera and Valencienne with Opera Pacific and Indianapolis Opera. Other credits include Frasquita in Carmen with Baltimore Opera and Opera Pacific, Mrs. Ford in The Merry Wives of Windsor and Despina in Cosi fan tutte with Indianapolis Opera.

In addition to her recently released solo CD Rare Verismo Arias (VOG/Qualiton) with Yves Abel conducting the English Chamber Orchestra, she can be heard on Brahms'Liebeslieder Walzer, Op. 82, with the William Hall Master Chorale (Angel). In 2004, she will team-up once again with Grammy Award winning producer Michael Haas (Coral Fox, Prod.), conductor Yves Abel and the English Chamber Orchestra for a second solo CD and also a duet CD with Chinese tenor, Warren Mok.

A frequent visitor to the concert stage, Ms. Follman has appeared with the English Chamber Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony, International Italian Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Alabama Symphony. Ms. Follman recently appeared in recital with tenor Warren Mok in Taipei, Taiwan with the Purely Professional Orchestra in the National Cultural Center. In 2004, the two will perform the same program in California and Hong Kong. In addition, she has performed the soprano soloist in Rossini'sStabet Materwith the Macau International Music Festival in a live Asian broadcast, Serpina in La Serva Padronawith the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and Violetta in La traviatawith the South Texas Symphony.

Ms. Follman has worked with such conductors as Carlo Donadio, Yves Abel, George Manahan, Francis Bonnin, Christopher Larkin, Christian Badea, James Meena, Daniel Beckwith, Steven Sloane, John DeMain, Joe Rescigno, Gunther Bauer-Skenk and Amy Chang.
